Week 6!

This week at IIM started for me when I returned from home on Wednesday, 28th May. The most exciting thing happening on campus was the Freshers’ Party on 31st May.

But for me, there were a couple more things that made the week special - my birthday on 1st June, and the IPL match tickets we had booked for the same day!

Even though the FRA mid-term on Friday was hanging over our heads like a sharp knife, it didn’t stop us from going all-in with our practice for the Freshers’ performances.

I joined Decibel (the PGPX music club) at the very last moment as a percussionist, and I couldn't be more thankful to the other members for warmly welcoming me. Playing the Cajon Box on stage that night - what a moment! One of those memories that will stick with me for a long time

The streak of unforgettable moments didn’t stop there. Despite being completely drained from the party, my friends surprised me at midnight to celebrate my birthday. They even gave me a hilarious yet adorable “Pussy Diary,” which I’ve now decided to turn into a slam book, a little keepsake where all of them will leave me messages. That is surely going to be one of the most precious things I take away from here.

While prepping for the GRE and interviews, I had always dreamt of celebrating my birthday at a B-School. Living that dream now felt like an achievement. It really hit me how far I’ve come.

But the birthday celebrations weren’t done yet! We were super excited for the Punjab Kings vs Mumbai Indians match in the evening. Just as the match was about to begin, the rain gods decided to crash the party. It poured. Heavily. Drenched and hopeful, we waited. Eventually, assuming the match wouldn’t resume, we left for dinner. But guess what? Just as we reached the restaurant, we found out that the match had resumed. Too late to go back, we ended up watching the match on our phone screens.

Having the tickets, choosing to leave the stadium and then not going back as it was too late, I guess this is what our economics professor used to call the “sunk cost fallacy”.

Well, Week 6 was a rollercoaster, coming back from home after the loss, an energetic Freshers’ Party, a heart-warming birthday surprise, and the unforgettable irony of missing an IPL match we had tickets for. Between music, friendships, dancing, and a bit of economics, it was one more week in the chaotic chapter of my life I call – IIM Ahmedabad!
